Our mission at Aviation Interview Prep Services Llc., is to coach you through the actual interview, however, there some things you can do prior to the interview to help put your best foot forward. Getting yourself in the right frame of mind will give you a leg up on the competition.
First, it is critical that you do as much research on your prospective company as possible. Use the web to obtain as much information as possible. Start by reviewing the company’s website, but also search other industry or financial sites to get additional information on the company. This will help you guage how the company is doing but more importantly it will give you perspective on the company from outside sources. After sorting all this information, you should have a firm grasp of the health of the company, and where the company is headed. You can also use the different analyst reports to come up with some good questions for the end of the interview. It is very customary for companies to give you the chance to ask questions. Don’t take this step lightly- it’s an essential part of the interview. By asking key questions, you communicate to the prospective company that you have done your homework and that you are serious about them as a possibly future employer.
Next, try and identify any current employees of the company you might be able contact (whether it be through mutual friends, business contacts, networking, etc). Talking with current employees is a great way to get a first-hand perspective on the culture of the company. Find out what they see as the strengths and weakness of the company. When speaking with them, you might also try to ascertain more specifics about the interview process. Questions such as what to wear for the interview, or who might be doing the actual interviews can be very helpful. It is especially helpful if in fact you can get information on the interview panel. Knowing the backgrounds of the individuals you would be meeting with can be a great advantage in terms of how to best answer questions. It is also an opportunity to see if you have contacts/friends in common with the interview panel in which case, you can potentially have a “good word” put in for you. This must be done carefully and with tact, which we can discuss with you when we meet for an interview preparation session.
Lastly, be sure to get a good night’s sleep the night before your interview, and also have a good breakfast the morning of. You will need the energy to help get you through a long, grueling day. Be prepared as this process is tiring both mentally and physically.
