Has anyone got any updates on Ram Air Freight out of Raliegh, NC? I worked for them for only three months and realized that they were soon going to kill someone and that they could give 2 sh*#s about their pilots. I'm just wondering it they are still up and running and if they've killed anyone yet. I sure hope not, but I think it's coming.

I've worked for the company for 16 months and wouldn't still be working at Ram Air if the company didn't care about its pilots. As with any cargo company, getting the cargo to the destination as quickly as possible is what its all about, but this must be done safely. In 25 years of operations the company has only had one fatality, which was a result of pilot error. The company view is that if the pilot is in good health, the weather isn't below minimums, and the plane is in good working order then you are supposed to fly. Also with any operation things are going to be MEL'd and just because things are MEL'd doesn't mean the plane is unsafe to fly. But with any operation it is the PIC that is in charge of making the decision to go or not.
I won't go into details, but with your situation the company was happy to see you leave since you were released from the contract.

Ram Air Freight is always in need of pilots and is constantly hiring so upon submitting a resume the company will call you within a week if they are interested. Either the Chief Pilot or one of several Assistant Chief Pilots will call - not HR. Basically they just want to see if you would be a good fit with the company and they will answer any questions that you have. The company is looking for instrument proficient pilots and basically the questions are just geared towards determining if you'd make it through training and whether you could handle flying single pilot IFR. If you are willing to fly to RDU for a face-to-face interview then that is your decision, but not required. The interview at the main office for Ram Air involves some basic IFR questions and would also consist of an interview flight - not a sim. If you are local then expect to be asked to do this, otherwise if the phone interview goes well then the next step is a class date. However, the class is more of an ongoing interview and those that successfully complete the training are hired. The training is intense and tiring but in my opinion is not too difficult. The company spoon feeds you everything that you need to know and it's just your responsibility to learn it all. You can expect to spend long days in ground school but the long days are so that you can start earning a paycheck as quickly as possible. If you meet the 135 minimums, are instrument current, have GPS experience, and have a good head on your shoulders then you will be hired before you know it. The company is currently offering a $1000 sign on bonus.
