I was wondering how to give up my commercial job and begin flying as a contract pilot for different companies. Along with my current type ratings, I would like to add a few more in order to be contracted out to diffenerent companies to ferry or reposition aircraft. I would have my own insurance!. Does anyone know how to get into this. I know that it is done, I just need to know the avenue to get into it. Take out an ad in a Jet Sales Publication? or is it word of mouth like the rest of the Corporate world? I'm done with the unstable Commercial world
Thank you

What Kind of type ratings were you thinking of? A G-550 type is about $50,000 which is a high end corporate jet and a Citation is about $13,000 which is at the lower end. Also contract flying in the corporate world is very tough to get into. I am currently doing it and it takes a lot of time and networking.
Word of caution: Based on my experience in the corporate world it is a differcult transition for airline pilots to fly corporate. Secondly there is no set schedule and things change all the time. I wrote another post on this issue if you want to look it up. Best of luck, feel free to ask me about specific questions.

I'm looking for a pilot mentor....I hope you'll take me up, I'd be mighty obliged.
I've always wanted to be a pilot since I was a little kid. I started training at the local FBO and got my PPL. I wanted to keep going with training but because of school (Mexico) being away from home (Georgia) time hasn't been on my side. I went to American Flyers during one winter break and trained for my IR and got it thankfully. I'd really like to keep on going in my training but I've kinda come to point where I'm not sure which way to go. I do remember my first instructor telling me if I wanted to really make my aviation experience worth while, I ought to seek out higher training and build some decent time.
As I'm way down here in Mexico in one of our church schools, its kinda been hard keeping up flying for the last 7 years almost. I'll be done though this year so I'll be headed back state side finally! I'm currently trying to do some research on flight training schools and the like. I'm not sure if I'd rather go to the airlines or to the corporate side. I don't really have any connections with either, nor do I know any pilots to speak of being down here so long.
Does it make a difference which school I attend if I end up wanting to go airline versus corporate? If so, what schools would you recommend. I was looking at the CAPT program out in palm coast, Fl http://captprogram.org/ which seemed kinda sensible to train on all glass, most of the others I looked at like Delta Connection Academy, Flight Safety Academy and ATP seemed to still have an older fleet of planes.
Really I'm not sure if those schools are the best way to go or not.
If a guy wants to go into the corporate side, what would you recommend me doing as far as training.
Could you tell me a little bit about corporate flying?
I really appreciate you taking the time reading all this and helping me out with your experience.
Thanks a bunch for any words of wisdom and guidance.
