I was wondering what "type" jet is best to try to fly in the regionals that give a person the best chance of getting hired on my the major airlines after a few years?

Could one make it to the majors only flying turboprop in the regionals?

Yes, you could get picked up by a major with only turboprop time. For example many Great Lakes pilots have gone to majors with no jet time.
That being said, regionals with jets pay more, so if you have the choice, take the job with the jet. And it will make the transition to the majors easier, having flown a jet.

Any type jet is fine (CRJ, ERJ) what counts is 121 PIC time. Go somewhere, upgrade and apply at all of the majors you would consider working for.
