I have read a lot of great posts and done a lot of research. I graduated a few years ago in the Midwest and entered the aviation world on the airport business side, which I really enjoy but I am unable to do the best part of aviation…FLY! I am now looking for a part-time possibly full-time job back on the flying side which I miss so much. I have my comm. Inst and CFI, but only been able to afford enough to keep current in the past few years. I love the North East minus all the costs associated with everything!! Have done some research into poss. pipeline, jump pilot and surveying to build some time. I would rather stay away from instructing, but def keeping it open. My goal is to eventually be involved in some type of aircraft management while still being able to fly some legs. I know, I know I want the best of both worlds, but hey things can work out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

I have the same problem you do. I graduated a while ago and I have been in the limbo area of flying (250 hrs - 1500 hrs) This area seems impossible to overcome at times. I have found that being a jump pilot is real spotty work. A little bit of wind, a tandem guy to jump with, and try to find a facility that is kept clean, everything goes wrong at jump sites. That said, I am a jump pilot because I can't find anything else. I think this gap will be the hardest to overcome. I don't know of any great solution but just know that you're not alone. There should be some program or something for building time in this in-between area. Most people do the CFI route, not for me, nor is the military. Good luck, and I hope you find a way to make it.
