I hope to get some pretty solid advice and guidance here. I am a career civil servant and hope to retire from government service in the next 5 to 10 years. I have a graduate degree and am a former military officer (Army Infantry Officer). I am working on my PPL and will continue for the foreseeable future to train and fly. I have the opportunity to fly as a pilot for my employer who has numerous airframes ranging from single piston engine planes, rotary aircraft to business jets and they pay for the professional development of their pilots to a commercial license. I plan to obtain my CFI, CFII, MEI and ATP on my own. When I retire at age 50 to 54, is that too old to fly for a Regional or Major Airline after retirement? In short, I have always loved flying and have the opportunity and money to do so now and hopefully until 65. Any advice from any Regional or Major airline pilots or anyone in the industry in a position to know?

Never too late. If you are getting retirement benefits and can handle the bad regional pay and schedules for the start of your career then go for it. I have flown with many FO who were retired police officers or other public servants and they were having a blast. Most are captains now and looking to move on the the Majors.
