I'm going to admit that I don't know the first thing about flying. Right now, I'm just a high school student exploring many various career paths. One is aviation or becoming a pilot. I've heard of flying lessons available to kids as young as 12. I was wondering how I get started learning to fly. Thanks!

Yeah, welcome to the madness!
I was in the same spot sorta in H.S., but I knew then that I wanted to fly for a living. Here we are 8 years later and I have found decent work and I am a single homeowner with a modest lifestyle. (not getting rich, but getting by!)
There are two general paths you can take : Civilian training (a college or program like ATP) or military. Either side has pros and cons, and that's for you to decide.
I went the civilian way and spent around $35,000 on training. I think that was the average back then but that number may have gone up by now.
As far as demand for pilots goes, it all hangs on the older pilots who are still sticking around and flying. Another thing to watch would be the 1,500 hour requirement that they are going to stick on to airline pilots. (maybe some airline guys could chime in on this, I'm not too familiar)
Good luck!
