I have read multiple posts about CFI's making as low as $8 an hour, the going advertised "school" rates in my area are $40 an hr., how hard is it to find freelance CFI jobs that you can charge the $40 rates?

Is it reasonable to think about doing CFI as a career?

Thanks,

Will

The best way at making money as a career CFI is through freelance. You get to make your own price and the flight school doesn't take out your cut. However, it is a good idea to get some type of insurance if your going to go that route. What a lot of my instructors do is that they have their steady work with the flight school and they freelance through the flying club.
