I've been ready to solo for some time now but due to work and weather I've been grounded to the point that weeks might pass between flights. Last week was perfect for flying and I've been more then ready to climb into 6MA and take her up on my own. Today was perfect, well I thought it was. High scattered clouds, winds at 300 at 7 knots, just 2 degrees off center. I took off with my instructor for 3 touch & goes and then my solo. I just crossing the 10L aprin and the wind started to bounce me abit, no big deal. I continue around and started my approach to 28R and the wind shifted again. Little bounce and I was off again. Tower had me shift to 28L due to other traffic. No big deal but once again I cross 10L aprin and I get bounced around. I make my base turn and just as I cross the 28L aprin the wind shifted again and this time to the point that if I didn't power up to go around I would've touched down in the grass. My instructor said he'd never had the winds shift like that on him before. It seemed that the wind was hitting us on the right front and the left rear all at once trying to spin us around. Needless to say my intructor said he didn't want to solo me today and I had to agree with him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I just can't pick the right days to fly. I wish I could just up and leave work during the week if the weather is good to fly, but Uncle Sam doesn't like it when we just up and leave like that. I'll get there tho.
