  1. Taxes and Per Diem

    Posted 11 Mar 2010

Recently I did my taxes for 2009 using TurboTax.

It didn't take too long, relatively speaking. TurboTax takes you through it pretty seemlessly.

One thing that professional pilots don't know a lot about though and neither do tax accountants is that in many cases your airline pays you a "per diem." This per diem is tax free, shows up on your W-2, and is used to offset the cost of your travel. It helps. But what you don't know is that company isn't paying you what you are allowed. You can get hundreds of dollars back using this one simply technique of claiming your per diem.

Check out: Attention All Pilots: Tax Day Cometh April 15th to learn more.

    Good luck...

    Regards,

P.S. I'm a pilot, not a tax lawyer or accountant. I'm just trying to point out a tool that can help you. Cheers!
