Well, since nobody posted anything, I did the interview cold. I submitted the experience to the "pilot interview" section of this website. Should appear shortly, it anyone is interested.

reducing insurance premiums is a fine reason to require crews to be both typed. But, again, if getting the type before OR AFTER getting hired is irrelevant to the insurance benefit, I would think.

Hmmm. I've never quite understood the intent to have the 737 type PRIOR to the app. I don't accept the reasoning that it shows "dedication, committment, or weeds out applicants not loyal, etc. etc. ). The way I see it, is if the process of getting hired WITHOUT the type, and then being required to get it within a specified time period was the norm (like it was several years back), how is that different? The applicant knows he/she will have to foot the bill anyway if hired, thus still displaying "dedication, committment, etc." for even applying. Otherwise, he'll simply not apply.

Take a look at it this way: Remember the days of of good 'ol pay for training? Those that applied knew they would have to pay IF hired, otherwise they wouldn't of been there. Same type of committment to that airline as if they paid prior to applying.

I just think, the only differnce between getting the type after or prior is the latter is financially foolish (or just has the money to burn without risk). There are a great many pilots that would be superb SWA employees, but just can't take that risk without a better guarantee, but would (maybe financially stugglingly, even) if offered the job. Same committment, otherwise wouldn't even apply
